I remember listening to an interview with the singer Jewel a few years ago where she professed the exact same belief; that endorsing high tax rates means you care for the poor.
Well, I have two things to say about people who believe this: you don’t care and you’re stupid.
You don’t care because caring implies action, on your part, not simply believing in an idea.
Next, you’re stupid because it is painfully obvious to any intelligent person that giving money to the government is one of the least effective ways of curing the ills of America’s downtrodden.
I find it a bit ironic, also, that Mr. Chait has basically given us the definition of Limousine Liberal without even realizing it.
